    about us

    about our food

moss is a café committed to community, sustainability, quality and creativity. our approach to food is simple: use the best local ingredients and let that speak for itself. our coffee is done right: stumptown beans brewed by serious baristas using recipes that bring out the unique flavors of each single origin and blend. our community is warm and open; it is both a respite and a place to connect.

sourcing from local farms allows us to serve the freshest, best tasting produce while also inspiring creative dishes and connecting us and our customers to our surroundings and the seasons. we hope to encourage a greater consciousness in the food we eat, where it comes from and the impact it has on both the planet and our community.

moss café aims to be accessible to the entire community of riverdale and beyond. for this reason we are not only kosher under the Riverdale Vaad, but we also offer allergy friendly options. whether you can’t have dairy, gluten, nuts or simply prefer not to have any of the above, we are happy to accommodate to the best of our abilities. in addition to being a pescatarian restaurant, we have strictly vegetarian and vegan options as well.

a note about our menus: they will change a lot. because we are using small, local and therefore seasonal farms, we will constantly be changing the menu to work with the produce we have available to us. we will be utilizing preservation methods such as pickling, curing, jam-making etc. to diversify the menu and make the amazing produce we get in season last a little bit longer. items that are never seasonal in new york (hello: avocados and lemons!) will not be local of course, but their quality and the quality of their source will remain priority nonetheless.
